The complex of the castle of Český Krumlov, situated on a rocky promontory of the Vltava River, was constructed in the course of six centuries. In the present state it is an extensive complex of palatial and farm buildings concentrated around five castle courtyards. The castle premises also include the vast castle garden.
A huge feudal mansion, which rises majestically on a promontory above the Vltava River and over the historic center of Český Krumlov, still bears witness to one rule of the country.
From the 15th to the 20th centuries in Bohemia, with only a few exceptions, the one who held Krumlov was the richest nobleman of the kingdom. It is therefore no wonder that the Český Krumlov Castle and Chateau is the second largest aristocratic residence in the Czech Republic after Prague Castle.
